England played 0-0 against Honduras in Miami in their final preparation match before opening the World Cup against Italy on June 16.
England largely failed to create dangerous chances, and the few that were created were all wasted by Daniel Sturridge. While England looked confident at the back, no player showed that he can take some risk in forward play and make things happen. Ross Barkley had an inspired outing, but to no effect. Danny Welbeck will likely get the starting spot against Italy despite not showing much during the preparation phase, and Adam Lallana will get the not as well. Lallana has so far been good in friendly matches, but against Honduras he was unrecognizable.
It seems Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling won't get starting spots against Italy, and will instead get the role of charging the tired opponent. Since the weather in Manaus will be inhumane, sending fresh Barkley and Sterling on the pitch at the right moment might prove to be a game winner.
