The Netherlands proved to be too much for Denmark as they went down 2-0. Many experts consider The Netherlands to be the dark horse of the competition and if they keep improving their game, could pose a serious threat to the rest of the teams.

The Dutchmen showed flashes of brilliance during this game and gave their fans a glimmer of hope. In the past, they have fielded brilliant teams which included the likes of Ruud Gullit, Marco Van Basten and Frank Rijkaard whose brilliance propelled the Dutch to victory.

The game started on a sluggish note with both teams failing to score during the first half. It was only during the second half that the Dutch started to find form. However, it was a freak goal early in the second half which helped the Dutch go 1-0.

Simon Poulsen went to head a Robin van Persie cross away but the ball ended up striking Agger on the back and went flying past Thomas Sorensen who was caught wrong footed. The Dutch went 2-0 with 5 minutes remaining, when a shot from Eljero Elia struck the post and Dirk Kuyt completed the formalities by putting the ball into the goal. Elia came on as a substitute in the second half and his speed and skill proved to be too much for the Danes to handle.

Some of the games legends such as Michel Platini, Johan Cruyff and Zinedine Zidane watched from the stands and they may have been disappointed with the quality of football on display. Take away the Germany game and this tournament till date has failed to provide the excitement and brilliance that soccer fans come to expect from the World Cup.

For the Netherlands, Van Persie , Rafael van der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder played well and the Dutch coach will be expecting them to make a bigger impact in their next match against Japan. They are clearly missing the services of Arjen Robben and might want to play Elia in their playing eleven.

The Danes played a solid game of football but in the end they knew that the Dutch were a little too strong for them. Their biggest chance came when Dennis Rommedahl shot straight at Martin Stekelenburg. They had a couple of other chances but in the end, they really did not have the confidence or the skill to penetrate the Dutch defense.

The Netherlands will look to finish on top of Group E as they have the team to beat both Japan and Cameron.
