In a re-match of the first game of the Euro 2008 tournament, Spain again clashed with Russia in the semi-finals.

Their first match ended 4-1 to the Spanish and in the end, although Russia showed dogged determination, this wasn’t going to be any different with the Spanish team beating the Russians 3-0 to book their place in the Euro 2008 Final against Germany. The weather, thunderstorms and heavy rain, wasn’t going to dampen the spirits of the Russian football players or their fans as they met Spain for the second time.

The Russian football team has made many fans in this tournament with there determination and relentless, fast-paced football.

Their execution of Holland, who were showing the World how football is really played, in the quarter-finals made them the surprise team in the semis and they stood their ground well against the Spanish and will go home with their heads held high.

On the night however, the Spanish had the run of the game from the beginning, although in the first half they struggled to break a 0-0 scoreline.  The Spanish, long-term favourites to win the tournament, gave the Russians a lesson in one-touch football and the Russian defence struggled to cope with the relentless onslaught, showing signs of tiredness.
The second half was a brighter affair for the Spanish with goals coming from Xavi, Daniel Guiza and David Silva to finish the game 3-0 and put them in the Euro 2008 Final.

However, the Spanish team will face Germany without the leading goal scorer of the tournament so far.  It’s been confirmed by the Spanish Coach that David Villa won’t make the Final after sustaining a thigh injury during the Russian game.  Villa is still expected to take the leading goal scorer title for the tournament after bagging 4 before this game.

The bookies clearly have the Spaniards favourites to win the Euro 2008 final but the Germans will relish the chance to prove themselves after looking sluggish in their last few games, which will make for an interesting final.
