Portugal went into this match as top dogs in the group and group winners anyway but the home side Switzerland's fans didn't seem to care before the kick-off as they elevated the atmosphere to fever pitch before the match kicked off.
Rewarded they were as well, after 2 second half goals, Switzerland ended the match beating Portugal 2-0 sending the fans in uproar.
The first half saw a fairly uneventful game with Portugal having the upper hand in the attack but the defence of Switzerland holding them off without too much problems and both teams had the occasional chance at goal.
It wasn't until the 71st minute that Switzerland managed to get on the score sheet with a goal from Hakan Yakin who converted a quick pass from Erin Derdiyok.
The 82nd minute saw Hakan Yakin take a penalty following a Fernando Meira trip in the box and it's 2-0 for Switzerland.
Switzerland finish the match with their dignity intact after beating the Portuguese. |
